If you would like to recommend an active LGA member for a position of officer or director, please contact any member of the Nominating Committee. The deadline for recommendations from the membership is February 19, 2026. Please send nominations to the committee chair.

Only LGA active members are eligible to serve on the board of directors. Active members include VML and VACo representatives. In reviewing candidates, the Nominating Committee will be governed by the selection guidelines set forth in P&P section 5-3.02(c), which include consideration of (a) candidates’ experience, commitment, and diversity of race and gender; (b) the type, size, geographic region, and history of board service for the member localities represented; and (c) representation by deputies and assistants, as well as private practitioners who are active members. Anyone who has been on a nominating committee before may remember using a geographic map. The board decided to no longer use the map, though geographic diversity remains a factor.

BOARD POSITIONS TO BE NOMINATED

FOUR OFFICERS, each to be elected to a one-year term (9/1/26–8/31/27):

  1. President (to replace Kelly J. Lackey, City of Fredericksburg)
  2. Vice-President (to replace Courtney R. Sydnor, City of Hampton)
  3. Treasurer (to replace Ryan C. Samuel, County of Arlington)
  4. Secretary (to replace Tyler C. Southall, County of Dinwiddie)

Although board service is not a condition to holding an office, at least two current or former board members should be considered for every officer position. While an officer may not succeed him/herself, each officer is eligible to “move up the officer ladder” and be elected to a new officer position.

TWO NEW DIRECTORS, each to be elected to a two-year term (9/1/26–8/31/28), to replace the following who will complete their second two-year term on 8/31/26:

  • Director (to replace John C. Blair, City of Staunton)
  • Director (to replace Brandi A. Law, City of Hampton)

While ineligible to be elected to another term, these directors remain eligible to be elected as an officer.

TWO DIRECTORS, each to be elected to a two-year term (9/1/26–8/31/28) for a position currently held by:

  • Jeffrey “Jeff” S. Gore, County of Amelia/Hefty Wiley & Gore (completing first term)
  • Sarah “Sally” E. Kegley, County of Scott (completing first term)

These two directors have completed their first terms and are eligible for election to a second term. If one of them is nominated as an officer, then another person needs to be nominated for a first term as a director.

SITTING BOARD MEMBERS WITH UNEXPIRED TERMS
