Strategic Plan

Board decisions and policies resulting from annual retreat discussions are adopted by formal motions at a regular Board meeting and incorporated, as appropriate, into the LGA’s strategic plan. In addition, the strategic plan is reviewed biennially by the president, the vice president, and the executive director, and any issues or recommendations for revision noted by them brought to the Board’s attention.

The Board of Directors in 2012 undertook an inaugural long-term strategic planning effort. The first step was a special LGA transitions committee, made up of officers and selected staff, which identified the major decision points that could affect LGA’s future success. With that report in hand, the LGA then hired a planning consultant, who led both a pre-planning session during the 2012 annual retreat, as well as a two-day weekend meeting in Richmond (January 2013)—which resulted in comprehensive revisions to LGA’s strategic plan, including an implementation schedule.

Per the Policies & Procedures Chapter 5 Section 5.05, the Board of Directors reviews and updates the Strategic plan.
