Nominations for Officers and Directors Open Until Feb. 26


            In accordance with the LGA’s Policies and Procedures, the Nominating Committee for new LGA officers and members of the Board of Directors has been appointed. As required, the committee membership includes at least representatives from each type of locality (town, city, and county) and from across the Commonwealth. Here are the 2018 members of the Nominating Committee:

            To begin its work, the committee is soliciting nominations from LGA members for the officer positions as well as one or more new directors. Nominations are needed for the four one-year officer positions of president, vice-president, treasurer, and secretary.  Roderick B. Williams (VP), Timothy R. Spencer (Treas.), and Lola Rodriguez Perkins (Secy) will have completed their current officer terms, but are eligible for election to other officer positions. Haskell C. Brown, III and Michelle R. Robl each have completed their second two-year terms as directors, but are eligible for election to an officer position. Olaun A. Simmons has completed his first director term and is eligible for appointment to a second term as director. Andrew H. Herrick will have completed the remainder of Deb Icenhour’s term and is eligible to be appointed to his first full two-year term. The legal representatives of active LGA members are eligible to serve as officers or directors.

            Continuing on the LGA’s Board of Directors will be Tara A. McGee, as immediate past president; Erin C. Ward and Mark C. Popovich, who are in their second term as directors; and Lesa J. Yeatts, and Helivi L. Holland who are in their first term as directors.

            The slate of officers and directors recommended by the Nominating Committee will be presented to the full LGA membership for election at the LGA’s annual business meeting at the Roanoke Conference on Thursday, April 19, 2018. The newly appointed board members and officers will begin their duties as of September 1, 2018. 

            If you would like to nominate a representative of an active LGA member for a position of officer or director, please contact any member of the Nominating Committee. The LGA values geographic diversity on its board of directors; accordingly, please identify, in your nomination, the jurisdiction that your nominee serves. The full list of guidelines that the Nominating Committee will consider is located in Chapter 5, Section 3-02(c) of the LGA’s Policies and Procedures Manual. Please note that all nominations must be received no later than Monday, February 26, 2018. A notice of the committee’s recommended slate of officers and directors will be provided to the LGA membership prior to the annual meeting in April.
