A. ROBERT CHERIN AWARD
For An Outstanding Deputy or Assistant Local Government Attorney
ARA L. TRAMBLIAN
THE A. ROBERT CHERIN AWARD HONORS OUTSTANDING DEPUTY OR ASSISTANT LOCAL GOVERNMENT ATTORNEYS who have demonstrated distinguished public service that reflects a personal commitment to the highest ethical and professional principles and who have enhanced the image of local government attorneys in the Commonwealth.
LGA BESTOWS THE AWARD TO RECOGNIZE EXCELLENCE in the practice of local government law, honoring those who are among the best at our craft and who serve as examples for those developing their skills as local government practitioners.
ARA L. TRAMBLIAN HAS SERVED HIS ENTIRE CAREER in the Arlington County Attorney’s Office, beginning as an Assistant in 1984 and becoming the Deputy County Attorney in 1990. He served as the Acting County Attorney for extended periods on two occasions, choosing not to seek the position of County Attorney in order to continue his primary focus on the substantively challenging areas in which he excelled. This also allowed him to maintain a work-home balance essential to his long-term personal and professional fulfillment.
WHILE DEMONSTRATING A BREADTH OF KNOWLEDGE regarding local government law that is characteristic of the best practitioners, Ara Tramblian focused his many talents on the complex areas of tort liability and real estate taxation. These areas required Mr. Tramblian to use his formidable litigation skills to protect the public interest.
ARA TRAMBLIAN’S EXPERTISE IN THESE AREAS SAVED THE TAXPAYERS of Arlington County millions of dollars and earned him the respect and admiration of Arlington County Board members and other elected officials, members of the federal and state judiciary, and fellow members of the bar, both allies and opponents.
THROUGHOUT THE YEARS, ARA TRAMBLIAN HAS CONDUCTED numerous training sessions for Arlington County staff and others in the areas of his expertise, and has overseen the law student interns in the County Attorney’s Office, unselfishly sharing his expansive knowledge of local government law.
ARA TRAMBLIAN HAS BEEN AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF LGA, including as a presenter and moderator at LGA conferences, and as the leader of the LGA Tax Practice Group.
AS A PAST PRESIDENT AND MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS of the Armenian Bar Association, Ara Tramblian has encouraged the growth of democratic institutions and the rule of law in Armenia, enhancing the image of local government lawyers on an international level through his service.
THE LGA BOARD OF DIRECTORS RECOGNIZES THAT ARA TRAMBLIAN has exemplified a personal commitment to the highest ethical standards and professional principles, and has served the public in a way that enhances the image of all local government attorneys.
THEREFORE, AS A PUBLIC COMMENDATION by his peers of his personal commitment to, and professional achievement in, local government law, the legal profession and his community, the Local Government Attorneys of Virginia, Inc., on this 28th day of April, 2017, is honored to bestow the 2017 A. ROBERT CHERIN AWARD FOR AN OUTSTANDING DEPUTY OR ASSISTANT LOCAL GOVERNMENT ATTORNEY upon ARA L. TRAMBLIAN.
